Christopher Potts, a seasoned financial professional and passionate advocate for the financial services industry, exemplifies leadership, commitment, and a deep sense of responsibility. With a career spanning nearly two decades, Christopher has seamlessly combined his roles as a mentor, advisor, and advocate, leaving an indelible mark on the communities he serves and the industry he represents.

A Journey Rooted in Service

Christopher’s path to financial services was not a foregone conclusion. Despite being a second-generation agent, his initial perceptions of the industry were shaped by less-than-positive experiences with early insurance representatives. However, after leaving corporate America in 2005, Christopher found his calling in the insurance world, inspired by the opportunities to make a tangible difference in underserved communities.

“I never put profit over integrity,” Christopher explains a principle that has guided his career and fostered unwavering trust among his clients and colleagues. His commitment to prioritizing the well-being of others has been the cornerstone of his success, whether as an independent agent or in his current role as an Account Executive in the Wholesale Division with Emerson Rogers.

The NAIFA Connection: Leadership and Advocacy

Christopher’s relationship with the NAIFA began through serendipity and grew into a pivotal part of his professional journey. “I first connected with NAIFA through my work with NABIP [National Association of Benefits and Insurance Professionals],” he recalls. He became a member in 2023 and his engagement deepened when he helped revitalize a NAIFA affiliate in South Carolina, ultimately stepping into leadership roles within the state chapter.

Now serving as an affiliate leader and a newly inducted member of the NAIFA-South Carolina board, Christopher emphasizes the importance of NAIFA’s advocacy efforts. “NAIFA’s work isn’t about political affiliations—it’s about how legislation impacts our industry and, more importantly, the people we serve,” he says.

Advocacy on the Hill

Christopher’s passion for advocacy was amplified during his first Congressional Conference. Despite facing last-minute challenges, when his fellow member unexpectedly needed to leave early and was going to be absent during a meeting with a legislator, Christopher rose to the occasion. “I had to pivot quickly and deliver both parts of the presentation,” he recalls. “It was nerve-wracking but also empowering to represent the voices of so many in our industry.”

His experience solidified his belief in the power of grassroots advocacy. “Congressional Conference is an incredible opportunity to not only network but also make your voice heard on a national stage,” Christopher says. “It’s about influencing policy for the betterment of our clients and the financial services ecosystem.”

Why Join NAIFA?

For Christopher, NAIFA represents more than an association—it’s a platform for growth, advocacy, and community. “NAIFA allows us to give back and influence the future of our profession,” he says. Whether lobbying legislators, networking with peers, or accessing professional development resources, Christopher sees NAIFA as an essential partner for anyone serious about financial services.

To aspiring professionals, his advice is clear: “This career can be life-changing if you’re willing to put in the effort and do what’s right for your clients. And being part of NAIFA ensures you have the tools, connections, and advocacy to succeed.”

This commitment to inclusion extends to his mentorship efforts, where he empowers aspiring professionals with practical advice and support. “I want to ensure that everyone, regardless of background, has the opportunity to succeed”, he says.

Looking Ahead

As Christopher embarks on the next chapter of his NAIFA leadership journey, he remains laser-focused on building a stronger, more inclusive financial services industry. Whether advocating for legislative change, mentoring new talent, or fostering diversity, Christopher embodies the spirit of service that defines NAIFA.

In his words: “The best investment I ever made was getting my insurance license. It changed my life, my family’s life, and the lives of the clients I’ve served. NAIFA has amplified that impact, giving me a voice to make a difference on an even larger scale.”

Christopher’s story is a testament to the transformative power of dedication, advocacy, and a relentless commitment to doing what’s right—the hallmarks of a true leader in financial services.
