Over the past few months, I’ve been revisiting my purpose, my why I do what I do.
Why? I used to be a live public speaker. As you may have noticed, there haven’t been a lot of live conferences and speaking opportunities over the past few years. For decades, creating live speaking presentations was a huge catalyst for me to create new content.
When you think of purpose, what comes to mind?
Will your current mind allow you to realize your purpose while your mind is being consumed trying to get your needs met through a person, place, position, or possession?
Your inner script and beliefs will illuminate or eclipse you during these historical worldly events, followed by economic highs and lows.
What is the origin of your concurrent, consecutive, and compounded beliefs and scripts?
Your values influence your beliefs and scripts.
Self-development and personal development need to be redefined.
An example of this is understanding the difference between inspiration and motivation:
The self is the being/heart/soul.
The person is the body/gut/mind.
The self does not need to be developed as the self is – period.
The person needs to be developed, with specific attention to the part of the mind called the amygdala, ego, and lizard brain – the fight, flight, and fright mechanisms.
The self, the being/heart/soul, are absent of the person’s perceived lack of confidence, esteem, image, importance, respect, or worth.
Does it make sense to use the same body/gut/mind to sort out a lack of confidence, esteem, image, importance, respect, or worth?
But wait, what about the gut-brain and intuition to sort things out? And what is the difference between gut-brain and intuition?
What does Google have to say about gut-brain and intuition? Does intuition come from the heart or the gut?
The further one goes into Google and the gut, the more confusion leaves a person clouded, mystified, and trapped between their body/gut/mind without realizing the being/heart/soul is shining through.
Think from your heart for a minute. When there are clouds in the sky, does the sun go away?
“As long as you are unable to access the power of the Now, every emotional pain you experience leaves behind a residue of pain that lives on in you. It merges with the pain from the past, which was already there, and becomes lodged in your mind and body. This, of course, includes the pain you suffered as a child, caused by the unconsciousness of the world into which you were born.” Eckhart Tolle – The Power of Now
One must practice being in the self to be the observer, thereby creating the effect, or you will be at the impact of the body/gut/mind colluding about what is wrong about what is right.
The observer effect is the fact that observing a situation or phenomenon necessarily changes it.
The observer effects are especially prominent in physics, where observation and uncertainty are fundamental aspects of modern quantum mechanics.
Who is the observer? The values-based being/heart/soul or the unmet needs-based body/gut/mind?
Values are deep-rooted soul-based experiences that you feel while living your values.
Your purpose is a verb, your values.
These are values that amplify in purpose: awareness, communion, consciousness, realization, and spaciousness.
Purpose comes from the heart, the self, and the soul of who you are.
Without values, there can be no fulfilling or sustainable purpose.
On purpose comes from the body/gut/mind.
These unmet needs amplify on purpose: approval, control, perfection, power, safety, and worthiness.
To realize one's purpose, one must be centered in the heart, the self the soul.
Without being centered, the forces of persons, places, positions, or possessions will possess your purpose.
To find purpose, to be in purpose, one must move from the mind to the heart to experience what inspired and motivated you in your past.
This requires you, the self, to amplify awareness.
Most people live in their minds and find it challenging to experience and understand the unmet needs and emotions that motivate them and the values and feelings that inspire them.
Most people unconsciously choose to live in their mind, as the mind doesn’t want to experience emotions and feelings to help them realize their purpose, calling, ministry, or vocation.
Here is a simple exercise to help one move from the mind to the heart.
I have a 1960s Plastic Circus Elephant Toy on my desk that my parents purchased for me on a Vancouver-Seattle trip when I was 5. That trip was one of my few happy and memorable holiday trips with my parents.
What emotions and feelings come to my heart and mind about the elephant?
Inspired Heart: strong and playful
Motivated Mind: chained and conditioned
What beliefs did your motivated mind make up in the past that were driven by unmet needs and emotions?
My motivated gut and mind made up the beliefs that there was no money, there was no time, that I had to work hard, that even though I worked hard, there was no recognition, that I was unloved, and as a result of all of this, I was angry, depressed, and tired.
I’ve allowed my gut and mind to drive my body most of my life with the chains of these conditioned beliefs motivated by unmet needs and negative emotions.
You must realize your purpose and your consciousness and be vigilant as attention goes where energy, focus, money, and time are invested.
Be the victor in the vigilant in the heart or be the victim; you choose.
My motivation was driven by the concurrent, consecutive, and compounded negative beliefs of no money, no time, working hard, no recognition, and being unloved, all motivated by unmet needs and negative emotions.
Again the result is I was really !@#$% motivated, but I was angry, depressed, and tired.
I now realize the following belief through the core of my inspired heart that is fueled by values and feelings:
“I am a highly intuitive and sensitive being that listens deeply and takes or recommends conscious and fulfilling action.”
The answers to the above were arrived at through the following questions that The Modern Elder Academy provided in an 8-week online course that Laura and I are doing called Living and Working On Purpose.
Covid was an event that caused me to change my script.
What script has Covid caused you to change?
As a result of Covid, will you continue to be inaccessible, irrelevant, and invisible?
Do you want to be accessible, relevant, and visible in 2023?
Where are you stuck?
What are you pretending not to know?
One cannot decide to isolate the heart while being seduced by the concurrent, consecutive, and compounded utterances of the gut and mind.
Most of the time, it requires working with someone from the outside to hold the awareness and space for you to decide to be the self you were meant to be.
