An expert on retirement planning, Dr. Ludwig brings a combination of practical, academic, and publishing experience to the position.

The Journal of Financial Service Professionals is pleased to announce that Eric T. Ludwig, PhD, CFP®, RICP®, Associate Professor of Retirement Income and RICP® program director with The American College of Financial Services, is the Journal’s Editor-in-Chief. An expert in the field of retirement planning and a past contributor to the Journal, Ludwig is the publication’s third editor-in-chief in its 80-year history. A peer-reviewed publication of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA), the Journal is recognized as one of the most prestigious periodicals in the financial field. Unlike other publications focused on one discipline or specialty, the Journal’s content addresses topics of interest to attorneys, accountants, Certified Financial Planners®, and other accomplished practitioners.

“Dr. Ludwig brings nearly two decades of financial services experience, strong academic credentials, and a keen understanding of financial publishing to his role as editor-in-chief,” said NAIFA CEO Kevin Mayeux, CAE. “The Journal earned a reputation for excellence since its founding by the Society for Financial Service Professionals in 1946 that has continued under its association with NAIFA. It is a trusted resource for NAIFA members and the entire financial services community. We are fortunate to have Dr. Ludwig guiding its future progress.”

Ludwig entered the financial services profession in 2007 after his first career as a commercial airline pilot. He co-founded Stockbridge Private Wealth Management in 2014 and serves as the company’s CEO and retirement income specialist. His published research spans retirement well-being, income strategy, investor behavior, and artificial intelligence in financial services. He is the author of The Retirement Specialist: Why Retirement Requires Expertise and How to Find It. He co-hosts the podcast, The Financial Insights Show.

In addition to his position with The American College, Ludwig held academic positions with Kansas State University as an Adjunct Professor and the UCLA Extension. He is a member of the Peer Review Board for the Financial Planning Association’s Journal of Financial Planning and served as Guest Editor for the CFP Board’s Financial Planning Review – Special Issue on AI in Financial Planning.

“I’m truly honored to take on the responsibility of leading the Journal and building on its long tradition of bringing applied financial knowledge to practitioners,” said Ludwig. “As both a researcher and a practicing financial planner, I’m excited to help connect research with the decisions professionals and their clients face every day. I look forward to shaping the Journal’s next chapter in support of a goal I share with NAIFA’s members: improving financial outcomes for Americans.”

Ludwig has assumed his duties as editor-in-chief of the Journal and his first published issue will appear in January 2027.
