Staying Up To Date Using The Federal Register

As an advisor, your clients expect you to be up to date and on the cutting edge of items that would impact their financial and health future. Staying current can be a real challenge since our industry is changing faster than ever before. The actions of governmental agencies will either directly or indirectly affect everyone in our country, including you and your clients.

Each day, federal agencies publish documents into the Federal Register, including proposed rules, final rules, public notices, and presidential actions. That means you can monitor the most recent news and activities of government agencies.

You can see what will be posted into the registry before it is added to the registry.

According to the Federal Register website, “The Public Inspection web page on FederalRegister.gov offers a preview of documents scheduled to appear in the next day’s Federal Register issue. The Public Inspection page may also include documents scheduled for later issues, at the request of the issuing agency. This gives the public access to important or complex documents before they publish in the Federal Register.” Those documents can be viewed prior to publishing here.

Starting about 8:45 a.m. EST every federal business day, you can use the Public Inspection page on FederalRegister.gov. This can be used to:

  • Browse the list of documents filed for public inspection
  • Read and print copies of documents in PDF format

Additional items are then added throughout the day, but primarily at 11:15 a.m. and 4:15 p.m. each day.
