Nathan James always knew he wanted to make a career helping people, so when a friend introduced him to NAIFA-AK Past President Nathan McKay, he knew he had found the right place. Two years later, he is creating customized strategies to help individuals and families reach their retirement goals as a New York Life Insurance Co. agent.
James talks about one instance that was particularly meaningful for him. He met with a young couple to set up life insurance policies for them. They had just had a baby boy and asked if he could help them set up a policy for him. James suggested a permanent life insurance policy and explained that the cash value* it accumulated could help pay for his college. “That's when I really felt like I made a difference,” says James. “When I went to college, I met a lot of friends. I got to travel and meet cool professors, and I learned a lot. So, being a part of helping make college happen for that child is something I enjoy reflecting on.”
When James decided to join a professional agency, NAIFA was an easy choice. He knew he wanted to be a part of an organization with a strong code of ethics and he’s looking forward to the educational resources and continuing education opportunities that NAIFA membership offers.
Outside of the office, James stays involved in his community. A former athlete, he volunteers coaching and mentoring baseball players at a local high school. He loves fishing, being outdoors, and traveling. His favorite spot is Sarasota, FL, where he enjoys the warm weather, good food, and relaxing atmosphere.
