Since he started his insurance and financial services career in 2006, Matt Georgopulos, LACP, has done it all—underwriting, futures trading, rock band management, and more. Now, he specializes in helping families find the right home, auto, and life insurance.
Making a Difference
Georgopulos says the best part of his work is getting to know his clients—finding out what’s important to them and helping them protect what they love. He talks about one such experience. A couple with two young boys he had worked with for several years was divorcing. It was a devastating time for the entire family. During a routine call to update her life insurance, the wife broke down in tears. What started as a 1-minute routine policy update turned into a 20-minute heart-to-heart. “We get to know people and be there for them during major life events—some exciting times like buying a new car or house, having a child, or getting married, but we’re also there for some of the really tough times too,” Georgopulos admits. “But knowing that we’re all in this together—having that common thread of humanity with all our clients—gives this career purpose and worthwhile meaning.”
Joining NAIFA
When Georgopulos learned about NAIFA, he knew it was a great way to connect with other professionals. As the life insurance expert in his office, he’s excited to learn from others in the industry and help mentor newer agents. “A lot of times you think [associations] are too big for who you are, but it's the people you associate with who help you in your own success,” he says. Being involved with NAIFA has already benefited his career—he earned the Life and Annuity Certified Professional (LACP) certification last month—and he’s looking forward to getting involved with his state chapter.
Outside of the Office
When he’s not working, Georgopulos enjoys playing golf and tennis and loves spending time with his wife and daughter. The family just moved from Chicago to Needham, MA, and are excited to explore the Boston and New England area. Georgopulos plans to get involved in his new community, volunteering with his daughter’s school, through his church, and anywhere else he's needed.
Thank you, Matt, for your hard work and dedication. We look forward to a bright future in the association for you and are #NAIFAproud to call you one of our own.
