April Is National Financial Literacy Month

Nate Wyatt, CFP, always knew he loved numbers, but he also knew he wanted a career helping people. So, in his junior year in college, he switched his major from engineering to finance. He took an internship at a bank and started his career in insurance and financial services right out of college.

Making a Difference

Now a financial advisor with Investment Service Center, Wyatt serves the Main Street Americans in his small town of Gothenburg, NE, offering comprehensive financial planning focused on retirement planning and insurance. His clients are his neighbors—individuals and families in agriculture, small business owners, hospital employees, teachers, and more. He sees his job as filling a crucial role. “I think we all have a need to help people and, when it comes to financial services, it's something most people don't have an interest in it.”

During the pandemic, Wyatt worked closely with small business owners, guiding them through applying for Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans. He also helped seniors lower their tax burdens through the Nebraska Homestead Exemption, which helps retirees on a fixed income cut their property tax bills. “Helping clients figure out ways to save money on their taxes, ways to pass on more of the resources to the next generation, and doing charitable planning—that's extremely rewarding,” he says.

Joining NAIFA

Over the years, Wyatt has benefited from the political advocacy done by insurance and financial services professionals, and he’s proud of NAIFA’s advocacy efforts. “It’s important to have people who have boots on the ground and are actively working with clients to have their voice be heard,” he says.

Outside of the Office

When he’s not working, Wyatt enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife and four children, fishing, hunting, and hiking. He also serves on the boards of several local organizations, including 17 years on the local school board, and on his church’s parish council. He’s dedicated to growing his town of under 4,000 residents by bringing in new businesses, building housing, and bringing young people back to the community, a venture which has seen a lot of success in recent years.

Thank you, Nate, for your hard work and dedication. We look forward to a bright future in the association for you and are #NAIFAproud to call you one of our own.
