April Is National Financial Literacy Month

Tax reform, healthcare and financial services regulatory reform on the agenda

Insurance agents and financial advisors will discuss emerging trends and issues facing the industry, including the impact comprehensive tax reform may have on their businesses, and the role agents play in helping consumers secure long-range financial security in today’s economic environment.

The conference and exhibition will be held Sept. 28-Oct. 1 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio.

Sessions are organized under topics tailored to the different interests and needs of NAIFA members, including life insurance and annuities, multiline, health and employee benefits, financial advising and investments, and sales and marketing. On Monday, Sept. 30, the NAIFA Government Relations Team will provide a briefing on the critical legislative and regulatory challenges facing the industry, including tax reform, the Affordable Care Act, and financial services regulatory reform, including issues surrounding fiduciary standards.

The conference will feature a live web cast of the 2013 Recipients of the realLIFEstories Award and LIFE Leadership. Richard A. Koob, AEP, CASL, ChFC, CLU of Northwestern Mutual Financial Network will be presented with the industry’s highest honor as the 72st recipient of the John Newton Russell Memorial Award. The conference also will host nearly 100 exhibitors that serve all facets of the industry.

Other recognitions:

  • Gabe Smith is named 2013 Young Advisor Team (YAT) Leader of the Year.
  • Shannon Robertson will receive the prestigious C. Carney Smith Award in association management.
  • The September 2013 issue of NAIFA’s Advisor Today profiles four outstanding advisors under 40.
