NAIFA is sorry to report the death of past NALU (now NAIFA) Treasurer Paul Smith Sr., CLU. Smith passed away at the age of 83.

Smith received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration Accounting from Rockhurst University. He was Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Fringe Benefits Design, Inc., of Overland Park, Kansas, an employee-benefits administration and insurance agency founded in the late 1960s.

Smith was NALU Treasurer for 13 years, a member of the Missouri Association of Life Underwriters and the Kansas City Life Underwriters Association. He was also a lifetime MDRT member and life insurance Salesman of the Year for three decades at Security Mutual Life Insurance Company. Always ready with a joke, he lit up a room and never met a stranger.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Ann Smith, several siblings, five children, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
