April Is National Financial Literacy Month

For Bob Kelly, insurance runs in the family. Kelly’s father was an insurance salesman and a family man through and through. He instilled in Kelly the importance of using your talents to help others. “He'd bring various instances where he’d sold policies, and something happened a short time afterward and the family was taken care of,” Kelly says. “They didn’t have to worry about anything."

When Kelly was a teenager, his father passed at the age of 42. Because of his life insurance policy, his family was protected. Now, Kelly strives to protect other families through his own work. “That’s what motivates me, especially after what I’ve gone through, seeing how insurance protected our family.” He continues, “I just want to be able to go out and do that for the community I serve.”

Kelly joined Knights of Columbus in 2017, after working in journalism and publishing for several years. Most of his clients at Knights of Columbus are from the Archdiocese of Indianapolis and he helps each with their unique needs. “Any time I have ever sold a policy to somebody that’s going to protect their life, I think that’s always made a difference,” he says. When a client passes, he’s able to help their family with a death claim check, but also goes above and beyond to help in any way he can. Sometimes, that means helping with funeral arrangements. “It’s not all about the sales,” he begins. “It’s about the service that we do as well.”

While Kelly spent a lot of time playing golf when he was younger, now he spends most of his time with his family. He’s especially proud of his daughter Allison, a graduate of Ball State University and social worker. He spent 20 years as the vice president of Oldtimers Organization, a non-profit organization that raises funds and gives out scholarships to underprivileged youth. He’s also been on the school board of his local parish and is a Past President of the Men’s Club at Holy Name Parish in Beech Grove.

Kelly first learned about NAIFA from Jeff Goralczyk, an assistant general agent at Knights of Columbus. Goralczyk explained what an asset NAIFA membership is, and Kelly decided to sign up. He’s excited to participate in NAIFA’s continuing education courses, as well as NAIFA’s political advocacy, to learn how to better serve his clients. “My main thing is being able to help people," he says. “That’s why I do this.”

Thank you, Bob, for your hard work and dedication. We look forward to a bright future in the association for you and are #NAIFAproud to call you one of our own.
