Scott Rider is the spokesperson for this year’s Disability Insurance Awareness Month (DIAM) campaign, the promotional program created and coordinated by Life Happens to teach consumers about the critical role disability income (DI) insurance plays in a sound financial plan.
As a former financial advisor, Rider was fortunate to understand how important it was to insure his income with DI insurance.
His life changed when he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s when he was just 47, but thankfully, he had the safety net of DI insurance. This enabled him and his family to maintain the lifestyle they’ve always known.
This year’s theme: “Reality Check.”
Without DI insurance, 50% of Americans said they would use their savings to help them meet their expenses if they were unable to work due to illness or injury.
This statistic, from the new Life Happens survey “The New American Milestones,” underscores the fact that consumers need a reality check when it comes to protecting their families’ financial future.
